A double-walled fortress on a 711-metre peak, already named in the Memoirs of ʿAbd Allāh, the 11th-century Zīrid king of Granada, and head of a district of the Axarquía under the Naṣrids. It was handed to the Catholic Monarchs by agreement in 1487. Little remains: square towers, a hexagonal one holding two cisterns and the wall around the plateau.
