The 6.7-metre rubble tower that survives of the ḥiṣn of Níjar, raised in the 11th century under ʿAbd Allāh ibn Buluqqīn to watch the road to the taifa of Murcia; remains of its walls can still be seen around it. It passed to Castile in 1488. Restored and open since 2016, with free access, it is a viewpoint over Níjar and Cabo de Gata.
