The citadel on a hill outside Tabernas, which became the second of the present province of Almería and was the alcázar of El Zagal, the last but one Naṣrid king; it was handed over in 1489, and the Capitulations of Almería were signed there. Its date is disputed: the article has it built in the 11th century and also gives it an Almohad origin. Part of it survives, and it can be visited freely.
