A fortress recorded from the 10th century on the rock of Salobreña. The inner enclosure, with the Torre del Homenaje, the Torre Vieja and two more towers, is the Naṣrid alcázar, a palace and a prison for kings such as Yūsuf III and Muley Hacén; the two outer enclosures are a Castilian addition of the late 15th century. It passed to Castile in 1489.
